I would like to thank BOMA Charlotte for awarding me the local international conference scholarship, without the scholarship I would not have been able to attend the conference. I truly believe that attending taught me more about the industry and helped me create relationships with my fellow industry peers.
The largest take away I had from the conference is the immense amount of opportunity for guidance and growth as an emerging professional. Hearing BOMA President Mark Dukes speak about the Leadership Academy and other mentorship programs inspires me to get more involved and put myself in every learning opportunity available.
I sat in on an educational session focused on connecting Administrative and Engineering teams and found some great take aways that can benefit my team at home. Hearing from industry leaders offered a new perspective that I wouldn't have otherwise gained. I enjoyed every part of the conference the educational sessions, learning new products at the expo and, of course, Broadway.

The BOMA International Conference last month was the fifth I've attended and like previous conferences, it proved to be an incredible experience! The educational opportunities are so numerous, and I've already put in place information I gained to maximize building performance and increase profitability. The Expo is unmatched in the CRE industry and provides a unique way to evaluate and compare vendors. As always, I identified new products I'll definitely utilize (along with getting some excellent swag!) Networking with others from our local BOMA was particularly beneficial this year, as we had the largest group from Charlotte that we've ever had at an International Conference. Additionally, I've grown professionally by meeting and networking with leaders and other property managers from across the country and the globe. Just in case that all sounds like too much work, there's also time allotted strictly for fun!
Since it's budget season, I highly encourage incorporating conference attendance, whether the expense is passed through to your building(s), or your company funds it. BOMA International has some GREAT tips to help justify your attendance. However, if BOMA International is out of reach due to the time and travel, then you'll find the BOMA Southern Region Conference (BOMA SRC) to be an outstanding event as well!

As Education is an important piece to BOMA's mission, BOMA International created a Foundation that sponsors scholarships, one of those being the J. Michael Coleman Scholarship to attend the annual BOMA International Conference. This scholarship is only open to Emerging Professionals, and one of our very own BOMA Greater Charlotte members, Jema Bravo with Spectrum Companies was one of only 12 recipients across the world to receive this scholarship. Congratulations Jema!
